Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #9: The Incarnation of God

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #9: The Incarnation of God: "After viewing 'The Nativity Story', analyzing your chosen Christmas carol, and reading Philippians 2:1-7, reflect on the meaning of Christma..."
Christmas is not for presents , turkey, etc, but it's is to celebrate the Birth of Jesus
I chose silent night for my Christmas carol because I think it best describes the Nativity story.

Jesus ,a holy infant that the angels will sing hallelujah for. The information say’s that he is the savior and king. the part of the carol that I show below emphasizes the night that Mary and Joseph arrive at his home town and how unreal it suddenly gets, then it shows how Mary had Jesus at that very moment, the child, Jesus is Holy and ends calmly to let them sleep after a hard days trek. It basically means that Jesus came to earth from a poor but humble family as a human so he could show the way to the others. He wanted to live among the people of this earth as he grew up.God chose this way to give light to Jesus because it shows that God is personal.

SILENT NIGHT

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #8 Islam: Two Perspectives

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #8 Islam: Two Perspectives: "Find where Islamic religious beliefs intersect with current events. Research a Western news source on the story and summarize the artic..."

This first article that I researched about was about the reactions of Afghanistan to the Koran books burning . The Afghans protested against the American burnings so in effect the Afghans started burning U.S. flags."if the Koran is burned, then it would be the beginning of destruction of America." is the statement the Afghans said to the U.S to intimidate. This event was very heart breaking for the afghans and took a pro Afghan approach.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100909/ap_on_re_as/quran_burning_reaction

The other article is a reaction of the U.S to the Koran Burning. some of the many U.S. churches decided to burn the Korans on the 9/11 anniversary, saying that Islam is the religion of devils The U.S. reactions is very surprising because most people actually agreed to carry the burning s on but mostly because of the sour thought of 9/11 on the back of their heads, Islamic followers warned the Christian church that they should have not done it and that there will be a hostile conflict between the 2 religions http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/seealso/2010/09/us_reaction_to_pastors.html

These articles show a very noticeable difference of support and it seems that there will be a hostile tension between Islam and Christianity and the middle east Islamic countries toward the U.S

Modern Religious Experience: Personal Commemoration- Reflection #7

Modern Religious Experience: Personal Commemoration- Reflection #7: "Think of an event in your life- past, present or future. You are going to create a commemorative ritual for this event. First, describe the ..."

The event I chose was the move to Korea. This event happened on July of 2009 and it when I moved from Mexico to Korea. This is important because it has been the first time I have moved to another continent. The conmemoration will last for about 20 hours because it is about the time it takes to fly from Mexico to Korea. The phrase to say during the conmemoration is" there is pleasure in every adventure you take, so the adventure to move countries is a great pleasure". Lastly for this event the people should be doing something out of the usul to signify the change of culture.

Deadalus and Icarus

Daedalus was an inventor, and he hated being in exile, so he decided to build wings for himself and his son, Icarus to escape. As they made their flight across the sky, he warned the boy: "'Take care / To fly a middle course, lest if you sink / Too low the waves may weight your feathers; if / Too high, the heat may burn them.Fly half-way / Between the two.Icarus, carried away with the freedom of his wings, flew too close to the sun, and his wings melted. He fell into the sea and drowned. In his memory, the sea where he drowned bears his name.

Reflection 4 Budhist meditation

Today i tried to meditate for twenty minutes. I sat doown on the floor of my bedroom, closed the door and turned off any electronic device that would distract my thoughts. I started really focused and my and i wasable to think but after that I started worrying about the homework dew next class and and of other things. But then i could focus a bit more and i felt like if i was actually meditating. my breaths were slow and time went by very slow, in my thoughts i thought of what happens in my life and how i could be more gracefull towards the people who have helped me, i think i should start appreciating other more and to help others
Meditating has been an interesting experience for me and its very relaxing.

Reflection of Gandhi

Reflection of Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was a Hindu. But as we can see in the movie he says he is also a jew,  a christian and a muslim, but what was very important is the way he used  the religion to change India and the rest of the world. Gandhi was born from Hindu parents in the town of Porbrandar, India on October 2nd, 1869.  Gandhi said in the movie that when he was a child in the temple he went to the holy man would read from the Qur'an and the Bhagavad Gita.  This influenced  his belief that Hinduism encompasses all religions.  This belief led Gandhi to fight for the independence form Great Britain and the unification of India and Pakistan, because he believed that  Hindus and Muslims could live peacefully in the same country. So as a result of the making of Pakistan, Gandhi thought of it as one of his failures. Gandhi also strongly believed, as a result of his belief , that non-violent cooperation was the best and only option that India had to defeat the British rule.  He told  his followers to fight against the British without using  violence.  In the end, his plan worked, and India was granted Independence on August 15th, 1947.  After independence, fighting started to rise out between the Muslims and the Hindus.  Gandhi threatened to fast to the death unless the fighting completely ceased.  This nonviolent technique was extremely effective, some don’t agree with that outright violence is more ethical than the "moral blackmail" technique that Gandhi often used to obtain what he thought was best for the Indian nation. And I think that because of the way Gandhi tacked his problems down was what made him so remarkable.
The quote, "A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act." is a great example of Ghandi because he sacrificed himself by fasting. He offers himself for peace. It was a  act that led many people to move forward, but later on into a unfortunate civil war.

Assignment #3- Sacred Poetry

A noble steed from the gods
we thank the gods for this creature
it helps us survive by moving  to places
it can run  until it reaches the gods
even when sick it is a blessing
we eat but with respect this noble steed
this is the way the gods save if from death
this is why we respect the gods
this is why we  treat this animal as our family member

Modern Religious Experience: Modern Religious Experience: Reflection Question #...

Religion has had a slight impact in my personal history. My mom is a Catholic and my dad is secular. when I was growing up I didn't go to Church and i didnt understand everything about religion. I did started to get curious what i was about 10 and i had my first comunion. In my house we have religious symbols that were from my grandparents and as gifts but i never really understood the meanings of them.
After my first communion I understood a little about what happened here and it helped me to think about questions of life. Since then religion has gradually been less interesting meto the pont i call myself a secular, not an atheist tho. I think the way i am now has been influenced by he teaching christianity has taught me.
